ABOUT THE BREED:  The American Pit Bull Terrier (commonly referred to as a “Pit Bull”) is a misunderstood dog with an unfair reputation. This breed is not naturally aggressive despite popular belief. Believe it or not, this type of dog in particular is very good with children and extremely loyal to his family. Pit Bulls can have a tendency to be reactive toward other animals. This is due to the fact they are Terriers by breed. Terriers were bred to hunt vermin.  They’re also very active dogs that require a large amount of exercise and stimulation. Pit Bulls are well-suited for people familiar with their breed and have strong leadership skills. The best Pitties are the well socialized, the way to do this is by socializing them as early on as possible with all kinds of animals, people, and environments, creating positive associations with all new things. Pit Bulls are very tenacious and stubborn at times. They need a leader in order to be well mannered pets. Dog training on a regular basis is essential in managing their behavior. This breed of dog should be stimulated on a daily basis to make sure he is willing to work for real life rewards in everyday situations.

ABOUT THE BREED: Labs are friendly, outgoing, and high-spirited companions who have more than enough affection to go around for a family looking for a medium-to-large dog.  Labs are famously friendly. They are companionable housemates who bond with the whole family, and they socialize well with neighbor dogs and humans alike. But don't mistake his easygoing personality for low energy: The Lab is an enthusiastic athlete that requires lots of exercise, like swimming and marathon games of fetch, to keep physically and mentally fit. They are usually eager to please and tolerant of the sort of handling little tykes so often dole out. They are sturdy too, which is important with small kids. You will need to train the dog so he or she learns to be gentle and not knock the kids over out of sheer joy and exuberance.

Please keep in mind there are many factors to consider when choosing the right match for a puppy, so an application cannot guarantee adoption. Nor do we work on a "first come first served" basis, but rather strive to find the best match for the personality of each dog. At the time of adoption, the puppy will be current on vaccinations and deworming. He or she will come with a pre-scheduled appointment at our vet to be spayed or neutered that the adopter is obligated to keep. The puppy will also be microchipped at this time.  Please consider the time and effort it takes to raise a puppy.  Foster puppies are typically NOT potty trained.  They require time and patience from their adopter.  If you are NOT serious about adoption and have not discussed the possiblility of adding a new canine to your home with ALL live in family members, DO NOT APPLY.  Volunteers spend countless hours reviewing applications, calling references, and scheduling home visits.  Please be sure you are ready to add a puppy to your home BEFORE applying.

Our puppy adoption fee is $400 plus a $50 training deposit, which is refunded to the adopter when he or she provides proof of having completed a basic obedience class with their puppy. As part of our adoption process, references both personal and veterinarian will be checked. Sadie's also requires a home visit before we adopt any of our dogs out; therefore we only adopt to our local WNY region.
